Return To Bangkok

Back in February 2001 I left the UK behind for an ‘Around the world’ trip consisting mainly of a years working holiday in Australia. Whats been almost forgotten is that this trip started with a kind of package tour stopover in Bangkok, Thailand.

Looking back now I am a little embarassed by my attitude back then as I took very little interest in what we did. If my memory serves me correctly (and with the help of a guidebook!) our itinerary included Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Chao Phraya river cruise, Thai classical dance and Patpong market.

Not bad for a days work but my mind was so focused on Australia back then that I didn’t really get any feel for Thailand. I guess being whisked around didn’t help either as you just follow rather than working it out for yourself which is just as much a part of travelling in my experience as the sightseeing stuff itself.

Anyway, after a week in Phuket myself and Ethan will be going to Bangkok at the start of May on a similar short stop to what I did all those years ago but this time I will be more ready for whatever is thrown at me.
