London Filming Locations – Andor: A Star Wars Story (2025)

As much as I liked ‘Rogue One(2016) I have to admit that I wasn’t immediately excited when it was announced in 2018 that there would be a prequel to that film (which in itself was a prequel to the original 1977 Star Wars movie) in the form of a streaming series about its main character Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). However, the news that ‘Andor‘ would be written by Tony Gilroy did make me take notice as I liked some of his previous work and he did supposedly make some big improvements to the ‘Rogue One‘ story.

Naturally, by the time season one of ‘Andor‘ was released in 2022 I was more enamored by the idea but it did actually take me a few episodes to get into it and then I grew to absolutely love it. It was pretty much the same scenario once season two came round in 2025 which culminated in an absolutely spectacular conclusion to the story of political intrigue taking us right up to the opening moments of ‘Rogue One‘ (2016).

With trips overseas having become more and more infrequent it’s been difficult to continue seeking out Star Wars filming locations in the Disney-era. On my previous visit to the UK in 2020 I covered some locales from ‘Rogue One‘ and this year I went down to London for a day trip which began with a quick visit to a few places which featured in season two of ‘Andor‘.

First up was Barbican Centre on Silk Street which is not an easy place to navigate, and I got lost a fair bit in trying to reach the locations used. Eventually I came across what I wanted to see on the 3rd floor by way of the concrete, labyrinthine walkways seen in ‘Ever Been to Ghorman?‘ (S02E04) on 12 minutes.

The harsh, grey and imposing cylindrical architectural structures of the Barbican Estate appear as the scene is set on the Imperial capital planet of Coruscant.

Cassian and Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) head towards a food store called Samo’s Deli Grocery. In reality, the exterior of this tense scene was just the exhibition hall entrance with a bit of set dressing. For the record, a few other scenes from Season One were filmed just beyond that point as indeed was ‘Quantum of Solace‘ (2008).

The 88 metre high architectural wonder known as the Lloyds Building (1 Lime Street) is seen on 40 minutes for a meeting between Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) and Cassian Andor.

It’s innovative for its exterior possessing the staircases, lifts, electrical power conduits and water pipes thereby leaving an uncluttered space inside. The building has featured in many movies including ‘Entrapment‘ (1999) where it portrayed a New York” high-rise. I tried to find the angles seen in ‘Andor‘ but ultimately failed and left empty handed!

In between the two aforementioned sights was the west wing of the courtyard at Guildhall (71 Basinghall Street) which is seen on 29 minutes in ‘I Have Friends Everywhere‘ (S02E05).

This is the planet Ghorman where Cassian goes undercover as fashion designer Varian Skye to gather intelligence and assess the local resistance to the Empire who were responsible for a recent massacre.

The architecture, completed in 1975, is hugely impressive and it’s easy to see why it was chosen to portray the cultured, civilised and “old-world” style planet.

If I’d had more time and done some better research, I would’ve loved to check out a few more filming locations from this critically acclaimed spy thriller which was incredibly well-written and delivered something new that had never really been seen in any Star Wars story.
