TF Top 10……Jason Bourne Filming Locations

The self-titled Jason Bourne movie hits cinema screens at the end of this month (in most countries but not Japan of course!) and marks the return of Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for the first time since 2007. In the meantime there has been ‘The Bourne Legacy‘ (2012); a story taking place at the same time as ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ (2007) with Jeremy Renner in the main role.

Legacy‘ was fine but didn’t really feel like a Bourne movie, try as much as it did to build a story round ‘Ultimatum‘. It is the original three which are the true heartbeat of the Bourne films and so I have cobbled together ten locations from that trilogy (plus a bonus one from ‘Legacy‘) which were filmed in the likes of New York, Paris, Berlin, London, Prague and Tangiers.

Here then, in no particular order, is the TF Top 10……Bourne filming locations…

1. Bourne’s Paris Apartment @ 104 Rue du Jardin, Paris (France): The Bourne Identity (2002)

bourne_identity_34  Christmas trip 2011-2012 474

Bourne and Marie arrive at Bourne’s apartment which is 104 Avenue Kléber and not 104 Rue du Jardin as portrayed in the film. It’s here that Bourne learns someone wants him out of the way and he gets caught up in an exciting fight. More details here

2. The SRD Training Facility @ 60 Lafayette Street, New York (USA): The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

Screen Shot 2012-08-09 at 15.42.01  P1010326

Pamela Landy (Joan Allen) gives the address 415 East 71st Street to Bourne via coded message. However, this address will not lead you to the place seen in the movie as the now-defunct Family Court Building was used as the secret Treadstone training place. To quote the main man “This is where it started for me. This is where it ends.” More details here

3. Landy’s Office @ 202 East 48th Street at 3rd Avenue, New York (USA): The Bourne Supremacy (2004)

Screen Shot 2012-08-03 at 20.40.32  P1010438

“Get some rest Pam, you look tired” are the final words uttered over the phone by Bourne to Landy before Moby’s theme tune kicks in and he is seen walking away from this building on 202 East 48th Street at 3rd Avenue where he had been spying on her from. More details here

4. Bourne is shot @ Friedrichsgracht, Berlin (Germany): The Bourne Supremacy (2004)

Screen Shot 2012-08-03 at 21.02.22  Dec2010-Jan2011 322

Bourne goes to “Moscow” to find the daughter of Vladimir Neski but Kirill, tasked once again with killing Bourne, finds and wounds him alongside this river. Bourne manages to flee though and Kirill is temporarily arrested before a car chase ensues. More details here

5. Bourne guides the journalist @ Waterloo, London (UK): The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

Screen Shot 2016-07-01 at 12.35.49  Dec2010-Jan2011 070

Our hero arranges to meet Guardian writer Simon Ross at the south entrance and tries to guide him through the overly-crowded station away from a few hitmen. More details here

6. Nicky exchanges cell phones with hitman Desh @ Café de Paris, Tangiers (Morocco): The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

Screen Shot 2016-07-01 at 12.32.48  Dec '09 - Jan '10 071

This café, one of Tangier’s most notorious haunts, was at the heart of the action going on around it. It was a popular haunt of spies and emissaries during Tangier’s years as an International City according to IMDb. More details here

7. Classic Bourne police chase @ Friedrichstrasse Station, Berlin (Germany): The Bourne Supremacy (2004)

Screen Shot 2012-08-03 at 22.18.58  Dec2010-Jan2011 341

Unlike most other films the train doors don’t magically close as soon as Bourne gets on but he does use efficient German timing to his advantage in order to make his escape. He jumps across the track narrowly avoiding an oncoming train and then he hops on over the bridge onto a slow riverboat, hooks himself back on to the bridge and hauls himself up and gets back on the train he’d originally intended to take. More details here

8. Bourne leaves Treadstone @ Pont des Arts, Paris (France): The Bourne Identity (2002)

Bourne crosses the Pont des Arts and walks away from Treadstone and mysteriously disappears. More details here

Screen Shot 2012-08-03 at 22.32.38  Dec2010-Jan2011 358

As well as actual Moscow, the car chase which brings the second film to a climax was also filmed in Berlin with perhaps the most notable part being the final crash at the Potsdamer Platz exit of Tiergarten Tunnel. More details here

10. Bourne’s first fight @ Kampa Park, Prague (Czech Republic): The Bourne Identity (2002)

bourneidentity  Dec2010-Jan2011 221

The Czech capital doubles up as Zurich (Switzerland) and a couple of local policemen wake up Bourne from his sleep on a bench by the Certovka Stream near Charles Bridge and regret doing so as they inevitably get duffed up before he runs away through the park. More details here

Bonus: Legacy climax @ Big Lagoon, El Nido, Palawan (Philippines): The Bourne Legacy (2012)

Screen Shot 2016-07-01 at 12.21.10  Philippines AprMay '07 041

Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) and Dr. Marta Shearing (Rachel Weisz) sail away at the end of the movie after the latter persuaded a Filipino boatman to help them escape.
