Foxed In The Head: Cycling To All Inari Shrines In Tokyo’s 23 Wards – #13 Edogawa

#13. Edogawa

Cycling may be something that I love to do but I’m not really one who goes for a ride without some kind of aim whether it be to a restaurant, a sight or just my workplace. With that in mind, and desperate to get out on my new bike, I decided to cycle round ALL the Inari Shrines in Tokyo taking each of the 23 wards one at a time.

Inspired by recent interest in tiny shrines, this idea seemed like a good way of hunting them down in a slightly orderly fashion. This really is not so much about the actual Inari Shrines but just getting out on my bike and having a means to an end. Please note that there are many more Inari Shrines (as well as other shrines) than what’s listed below but these were all the ones registered on Google Maps. The times in brackets next to the name of the shrines note the (approximate) time of day I was at each place.

Starting Point: Tokyo Fox Global Operations Centre, Itabashi-ku (08:53)

1. Hoei Inari Shrine @ 1-17-2 Kitakasai (10:37)

2. Inari Shrine @ 1-10-7 Kitakasai (10:40)

3. Ukita Inari Shrine @ 4-24-16 Kitakasai (11:05)

4. Nakakasai Inari Shrine @ 5-28-10 Nakakasai (?)

5. Inari Shrine @ 2-32-2 Higashikasai (11:11)

6. Nagashima Inari Shrine @ 2-28 Higashikasai (11:15)

7. Inari Shrine @ 6-31-91 Edogawa (11:21)

8. Morishita Inari Shrine @ 3-12-19 Ichinoe (11:31)

9. Inari Shrine @ 2-4 Higashishinozaki (11:47)

Date: Sunday 27th September 2020

Weather: Cloudy and cool with sunny intervals

Area: 53.25 km²

Distance: 63.48 km

Time: 4.03 hrs

Calories Burned: 1839

Notes: Unlike most other rides in this series, this one was actually combined with a few other non-shrine related places but they were basically en-route so didn`t involve too much of a detour. The reason there`s no timecode for the fourth one is that I forgot to go there on this cycle journey. Fear not though as I went there at a later date not that it was anything special! There were a few reasonably interesting shrines but overall this wasn`t the most exciting of adventures. Thankfully the extra places I visited before, during and after made it a nice day of riding.

Fox Rating: 4/10

Nearby Sights: Kasai Rinkai Park, Tokyo Sea Life Park, Edogawa Natural Zoo, Burger Vending Machine Restaurant, Kasai Tokyo Metro Museum, Kyu Komatsugawa Kōmon
