Retrospective Alphabet Dating In Greater Tokyo S00E04: N-R

Whilst season two of alphabet dating is taking place I thought I could fill that void with a restrospecive series which is certainly an easier operation as they were not done in alphabetical order which can be a little stressful and frustrating at times.

Season 0 will throw back to places and things we’ve done in Greater Tokyo since 2011. I generally hate the term “date night” for people who are married or have been together a long time but I guess it is apt for some of the things we did in this series as it will include some things which actually were proper dates back in the early years when we got together.

N is for Namja Town (November 2016)

This theme park in Ikebukuro’s Sunshine City building was a spontaneous visit on the back of our time at a nearby rabbit cafe. Namja Town has a wide range of strange and unique ice cream flavours on offer such as curry, cheese, corn, seaweed, avocado and so on. There was also some different types of gyoza too. O is for Owl Cafe (April 2017)

Such cafes had been around and growing in popularity for a few years before we finally visited one. It was a good experience and the place we went to looked as if it was well run with the owls lovingly cared for but I’m not sure such animals should really be used in pet cafes. More details here

P is for Park Hyatt (July 2014)

It took a while to get round to going to this hotel in Nishi-Shinjuku but our wedding day on July 7th seemed the perfect opportunity to dine out in the New York Bar & Grill on the 52nd floor of the hotel. It cost 5000 yen (+ 13% service charge!) for a fine lunch with stunning city views on the very table used in ‘Lost In Tranlsation‘ (2003). More details here

Q is for Queen Movie (December 2018)

Really slim, if non existant, pickings for the letter Q so I’ll include the pre-Christmas trip to see ‘Bohemian Rhapsody‘ (2018) which was a good replacement for the Star Wars festive season releases we’d got used to in the previous three years. YouTube match-ups of the real Live Aid concert and the movie portrayal followed and were rewatched a fair few times as we were gripped by Queen fever.

R is for River Cruise (Februray 2017)

A seven-course French meal on a restaurant ship travelling around Tokyo Bay was a lovely way to experience something a bit different and dine out in less customary fashion. More details here
