Alphabet Dating In Japan With My Wife Who Was Still Completely Unaware Of The Task At Hand! (S02E01 A-E)

Season one (as well as the prequel season zero) of alphabet dating certainly pushed the boundaries of what a “date” is, and that continues in season two with some very tenuous examples for each letter of the alphabet. For the record, doing something together (no matter what it is!) counts as a date in this series which is not always about visiting glamorous places and doing exciting things but just getting out there and exploring locations we wouldn’t normally go to. Without further ado lets get season two up and running with what we did for the first set of letters…

A is for Asakadai (April 2022)

There is a bias towards Tobu Toju line travel as that’s easiest for us. This feature has helped us explore the line a lot more and Asakadai was the gateway to the Kurome River which is a short disance from the station and provided a very pleasant morning stroll. We have returned a couple of times since then!

B is for Bamiyan Chinese Restaurant (May 2022)

I think this was my wife’s choice of restaurant one Sunday afternoon. This is a family-friendly chain restaurant serving up fairly cheap Chinese cuisine. The likes of ramen, wanton noodles, gyoza, dumplings, dessert and the all-you-can-drink bar were our selections. It’s so easy and convenient to order on the tablets in such places that you do end up getting more than necessary!

C is for Cup Noodles, Clones, Cola & Creme Eggs (May 2022)

An afternoon with C’s which began with some cup noodles for lunch followed by ‘Attack Of The Clones‘ (2002) as we were watching (for the first time in her case!) the prequel trilogy ahead of the ‘Obi Wan Kenobi‘ TV series on Disney Plus. Easter wasn’t too long before so must be why I had some Cadbury’s creme eggs (bought at great cost!). The Pepsi bottles were limited edition ones based on the designs from the middle of the 20th century.

D is for Drive My Car (June 2022)

Not too much to add to what was written in the tweet above. It’s actually quite rare that we watch Japanese films but we both wanted to see if this lived up to the hype after it won an Academy Award for the Best International Feature Film of 2021.

E is for Ebisu (July 2022)

The main reason to visit Ebisu was to go to the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum to see the illumination of life by death exhibition which my wife was interested in. Before that we checked out Yebisu Garden Place and we had a delicious Indian lunch set afterwards.
