So 2025 has only just begun and already Tokyo Fox is looking back!! There have been exactly ten new posts on here each and every month for over a decade but last year saw it reduced to eight a month for a variety of reasons. As there were 24 posts less than usual it has been decided to just show the ten from 2024 which got the most hits … excluding compilation posts! Of course those entries from earlier in the year had more time to accumulate hits so don’t read too much into it all as it’s basically just another filler post to kick start the new year! Lets start this top 10 compilation post at number 11!!
11. Izu Coastal Adventures: A Uniquely Coloured Torii Gate, Northern Izu’s Finest Beach & The Real Life ‘Shogun’ Setting – Who’d have thought that this uniquely coloured torii gate would get so much attention. It’s basically an abandoned shrine where someone has painted the gate yellow but it caught the attention of Tokyo Fox readers and just missed out on a prestiguous top ten spot! More details here
10. I Met A Leicester Tigers & England Rugby Union Legend – My many sporting posts rarely ever fare too well compared to the other stuff but I’m delighted that this one did alright as it was perhaps my most memorabe moment of 2024. More details here
9. Dining Out: Black Curry Ramen & Japan’s Most Secret Toilet Guarded By A Life-Size Star Wars Character! – Despite frequent visits to Kashiwa to see my team over the years I’d never been to this amazing restaurant which is so close to the stadium! This place really appealed to my interests with football, food, Star Wars and quirky toilets all in one place! More details here
8. The Search For One Of Japan’s Most Mysterious & Controversial Heritage Museums – This all came about thanks to a reader who, having seen a lot of my posts about sights in this area of Shizuoka Prefecture, wanted information on a very interesting heritage museum I’d never heard of, and one that the tourist information centre in Atami claims doesn’t exist. My investigation beccame quite the adventure. More details here
7. Dining Out: The Wonderfully Coloured Gyoza Dumplings Which Are More Than Just A Gimmick – With the vast increase in foreign tourism to Japan in the last couple of years, a few vegetarian restaurants have begun popping up to cater for such tastes which are far more common among westerners. This nice and cosy place is very appealing to the modern-day Instagram generation of visitors and the food is incredibly tasty. More details here
6. The Countdown To Star Wars Day 2024 Has Begun With 11 Days Of Festivities In Japan’s 2nd Biggest City! – Unlike sport, my other passion of Star Wars actually manages to rate well when it comes to these rankings lists. Star Wars Day is no longer just a one day event but a season lasting over a week with multiple events taking place such as this one. More details here
5. The “Other” Tower In Japan Inspired By The Eiffel Tower! – With the Paris 2024 Olympics on the horizon this one was all about timing. This mini Eiffel Tower was the brainchild of the President of a sheet metal company, and is a 1:20 scale sized replica completed as a hobby in 2001 at a cost of 17 million yen. More details here
4. Show Your Star Wars Passion, Strength & Power By Visiting This Unique Collection of Artwork In Tokyo – This temporary art exhibition in Shibuya was the Star Wars post with the most hits last year and was also part of the aforementioned ‘May the 4th be with you’ festivities. More details here
3. What The Cinder Cone Mount Omuro Looks Like In Winter + 2 Trips To Ippeki Lake – The beautifully shaped Omuro-yama has been given a fair amount of attention by some of Japan’s biggest YouTubers so I really was surprised to see this post get such a large amount of hits in 2024, especially when it’s the 3rd or 4th time I’ve written about it! More details here
2. Is It Worth Visiting The Japanese Fishing Village Which Was The Setting For The TV Series Shogun? – Thankfully, my reach is fairly limited so Ajiro is highly unlikely to be swarming with tourists off the back of this post which really capitalised on the success of the critically acclaimed Shogun TV series. More details here
1. All of The Modern Arty Toilets Which Featured In The Movie ‘Perfect Days’ (2023) – I guess I’ll never know how many hits this might’ve got had it actually won the award but as it was it was a successful post for me, and a fairly easy one to compile as I had already been to pretty much every toilet before the movie was even made!
