So 2021 has only just begun and already Tokyo Fox is looking back!! For about a decade now there have been exactly ten new posts on here each and every month and these are the twenty from 2020 which got the most hits…excluding sponsored or TF Top 10 list posts! Of course those entries from earlier in the year had more time to accumulate hits so don’t read too much into it all as it’s basically just another filler post to kick start the new year!
20. What Watching Football In Japan Is Like Now. More details here
19. Meeting The Ex-Leicester City Player Who Scored The Final Goal At Filbert Street. More details here
18. Taking My Wife On Her First Trip To Leicester. More details here
17. My “Pele Played In Japan” Article Was In Japan’s #1 English Language Football Magazine! More details here
16. Dining Out: The 100 Yen Burger Vending Machine Restaurant. More details here
15. The Little Known German Park In Tokyo (+ Memories Of My Time Living & Working In Hamburg). More details here
14. #WeStopAtNothing! Platform Zeros In Japan, Z Stations In Tokyo & The Opening Of A New Yamanote Line Station. More details here
13. Return To The King Power Stadium 5 Years After My Last Visit As Leicester City Aim For FA Cup Glory. More details here
12. Review: Films Set In Japan – Sayonara (1957). More details here
11. Tokyo Daytripper: Japan’s Deepest Underground Station Is Probably It’s Creepiest Too! More details here
10. Star Wars Traveller – Scarif (a.k.a. Canary Wharf Station, UK) – The force was strong with this one, and the thumbnail below attracted a fair bit of attention online amongst some of the Star Wars fan community. More details here
9. Appearing As A Guest On BBC Radio Leicester’s Football Forum – A mention on the radio, and some prominent retweets, did wonders for promotion of this post among Leicester City fans. More details here
8. Tokyo Filming Locations #19 – Tokyo Pop (1988) – It was the original five posts in this series which really helped propel Tokyo Fox from a few hundred hits a day to one that managed to nearly get five figures. A decade on from the initial Tokyo filming locations and I’m still managing to dig up a few more. I was pretty happy to finally just get to see this movie so to recognise the locales and track them down was even more delightful. More details here
7. On The Fox Trail……At The Babymetal Shrine From The ‘Megitsune’ Video (Tokyo) – Posts from this series have always been pretty successful in terms of ratings but I’m sure the popularity of this one was due to it’s inclusion on a Babymetal podcast. More details here
6. Pilgrimage To Find A Religious Cult Building In Ibaraki Prefecture (+ Details Of 4 Others In Japan) – Despite the first word in the title being mispelled for the majority of the year, this one still managed to get a fair bit of attention for other reasons. More details here
5. 3 Hour Return Journey On My New Bicycle To Find The Mystery Drink Dispensing Vending Machine! – It took me many years to realise that a click-bait title was really needed to get some attention. It seemed to do the trick for this pointless, but fun bike trip. More details here
4. Review: Films Set In Japan – Jackass: The Movie (2002) – There’s always at least one surprise in this top ten each year and this is the entry for 2020! Why the hell a “review” of a movie from nearly two decades ago did so well, I really don’t know! Maybe it just appears relatively high on Google when people type Jackass in to their search engine! More details here
3. London Filming Locations: Jason Bourne (2016) – ‘The Bourne Supremacy‘ (2004) Berlin locations is one of the most popular posts ever on Tokyo Fox and, thanks to a link added to the bottom of that post, a sizeable portion of people reading that have been interested enough to click on this post from the fourth Bourne movie to actually feature Jason Bourne! More details here
2. London Filming Locations: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) – Movie locales were the bread and butter of this site for a long time but they have sadly dwindled in recent years. Returning to the UK last year gave me the chance to catch up on, and hunt down the locations for a range of films including this one which was still fairly recent at the time. Before the latest Fast & Furious film’s release date was delayed, this post was clocking up a fair few hits each day. More details here
1. Tokyo Daytripper: The Lost World Ruins Of A Stone Quarry In Gunma – This was something of an unknown quantity in the English media when I went there, but it’s fair to say that it really took off on the back of being featured in a YouTube travel series on the excellent Abroad in Japan channel.
